The Bristol office of national law firm Bevan Brittan has selected city-based 1625 Independent People as its charity for the next two years.

Bevan Brittan will support the charity, which works with young people who are homeless, leaving care or at risk of homelessness, in two ways – through fundraising activities and volunteering opportunities.

As 1625 Independent People’s base is in Old Market-based organisation, close to Bevan Brittan’s Kings Orchard office, staff from the firm will be able to conveniently meet the charity and support its work on a regular basis.

1625 Independent People provides a range of assistance to young people, including safe, stable accommodation and practical and emotional support to help them build relationships, develop independent living skills and access jobs and training.

It was chosen as the Bristol office charity after a hugely successful two-year partnership with Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC), during which £58,000 was raised – an amount described as ‘transformational’ by the charity.

Bevan Brittan hopes to replicate that level of success with 1625 Independent People.

Bevan Brittan partner and Bristol office head David Hobbs said: “There were lots of reasons why 1625 Independent People was the stand-out charity for the Bristol team and we are keen to support a cause that helps young people, particularly in light of the difficulties they have faced over the last few years since the pandemic.

“It has been a pleasure working with GWAAC over the past two years and we hope that our partnership with 1625 Independent People will prove to be just as successful.”

1625 Independent People Dom Wood added: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as Bevan Brittan’s charity partner.

“I have known the firm well for many years and always admired the quality of their work and their personal approach.

“It is through fantastic partnerships such as this, that 1625ip are able to continue to support young homeless people and care leavers, throughout Bristol and the South West.”

1625 Independent People was previously the official charity of Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby between 2020 and 2022.

Bevan Brittan, which also has offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London, employs more than 530 staff and has 90-plus partners.
