Young offenders centre refurb contract secured by Integral Build

Bristol-based Integral Build has won a contract to work at the Young Offenders Institution in Feltham, Middlesex – the latest in series of logistically-challenging jobs won by the specialist construction and refurbishment firm.

The contract, for Care UK, the leading independent provider of health and social care services, particularly to the public sector, includes stripping out and re-fitting counters, mechanical and electrical components and sanitary ware in the centre’s pharmacy.

The nature of the project calls for careful logistical planning as security of the site and access has to be very closely managed and controlled.

The original Feltham building opened in 1854 as an industrial school and was taken over in 1910 by the Prison Commissioners.  The existing building opened as a remand centre in 1988 and can accommodate around 750 juveniles and young adults aged between 15 and 21.

This is the latest in a number of projects carried out by Integral Build for Care UK, including the fitting out of an NHS MRI scanner facility and new physiotherapy suite in High Wycombe  and conversion of offices in Brighton  as an equitable-access surgery and walk-in clinic.

Integral Build divisional director Tim Stringer said: “This is a sensitive project in an obviously high-security environment and reflects our ability to work in challenging situations where the impact of time, cost and phased operations have a particularly important part to play within the successful delivery of the project.”
