Oil giant BP has awarded multi-million pound contracts for North Sea oil and gas metering systems and a 'slops' separation package to South Gloucestershire-based Alderley Systems.

They will be installed on the BP Quad 204, a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit to replace an existing vessel in the Schiehallion field, west of Shetland. It is part of a BP project to replace the existing subsea system with 15 new/replacement flow lines and 21 new/replacement risers; and 14 new wells in addition to the 52 existing wells. The objective is to produce 130m barrels of oil a day and 220m standard cubic ft per day of gas compression.

Alderley, based at Wickwar, near Yate, is a market leader in liquid and gas metering, produced water treatment packages and water injection systems. The new BP systems will be manufactured and tested over the next 52 weeks at its factory.

Alderley Systems managing director Jim McAleese said: “This is an exciting project – the Schiehallion field is located in one of the most challenging offshore environments in the UK. Through our engineering expertise and extensive knowledge in standards and technologies we have been able to offer the right application which meets the specific design requirements, while taking into account the challenging external factors in this area.”

The company has been manufacturing oilfield metering equipment since 1959 and has supplied more than 500 systems to more than 50 countries. It also has regional facilities in the Middle East, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
