Bristol-based independent café and events business Double Puc Café has become the designated caterer for the city’s science centre and educational charity We The Curious ahead of its relaunch next month.
Under the multi-year contract, Double Puc Café will operate the Harbourside attraction’s café and kiosk as well as also being the cater for events hosted at the venue.
It will be the Double Puc’s second location when We The Curious reopens on 2 July.
The firm is the latest venture from Griff Holland and Ed Brown, who bring a wealth of experience from their previous Bristol-based catering business Friska.
The ethically minded café chain was founded in 2009 and grew to operate 12 sites across the UK prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following its demise, Griff and Ed formed Double Puc Café, opening its first outlet in a former Friska site at Temple Quay.
We The Curious, renowned for its engaging exhibits spanning science and the arts, has been closed since April 2020 following a devastating fire that caused extensive damage.
Now, with Double Puc Café on board, it is poised to welcome visitors once again with more than 200 innovative and interactive exhibits across its two floors.
Double Puc Café said it was committed to upholding the same high ethical standards as Friska, offering its barista grade coffee, famous Double Puc cookies, soft-serve ice cream and a diverse selection of nutritious lunch options.
These include hot wraps, cheese toasties and burritos. The menu at We The Curious will be vegetarian-led with an emphasis on fun and family-friendly dining that aligns with the charity’s ethos.
Griff said: “We are immensely honoured to have been chosen as the designated operator for the café of We The Curious, as it reopens.
“We are deeply committed to providing not only exceptional food and service but also fostering a sense of community and curiosity, which perfectly aligns with the mission of We The Curious.”
Ed said that the Double Puc team was excited to bring its unique blend of hospitality to We The Curious.
“Through our partnership, this will represent a big step forward four Double Puc as we expect the contract to double our current team size and revenues,” he added.
“Our focus is to create memorable moments for visitors while contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape of Bristol.”
Double Puc was supported by Bristol Inclusive & Sustainable Business and Enterprise Support (BrisBES), a programme run by enterprise group YTKO designed to deliver high-quality, inclusive and sustainable support to the city’s entrepreneurs and business.
