Bristol-based organic food retailer the Better Food Company’s founder Phil Haughton has officially opened its third store with a plea to the industry and politicians to bring about a food revolution.
Mr Haughton, the firm’s managing director and food pioneer, said the outlet at the new Wapping Wharf development on the Harbourside, demonstrated the demand for the firm’s approach to food.
The firm, formed by Mr Haughton in 1992, works closely with its suppliers, most of them based within 50 miles of Bristol.
It now employs 110 people and turns over £100,000 a week.
The new 2,500 sq ft store opposite Gaol Ferry Bridge offers a range of organic, locally sourced and Fairtrade produce, including fresh fruit and veg, bread, dairy, meat, poultry and seafood, plus wine, beer and cider.
Its organic café serves fresh, home-cooked mains, soups and salads, cakes and biscuits, and a wide range of teas, coffees and juices from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and from 8am to 6pm on Sundays.
