The specialist trust management and charities teams at Bristol-headquartered law firm VWV have helped to facilitate a £1m donation to the appeal to restore Bristol Cathedral’s historic organ.

The donation – the largest ever received by the cathedral – was made by the Harry Crook Foundation, which was created in 1963 and has been supporting Bristol charities ever since.

Its latest million-pound gift means the £2m organ restoration appeal, which is led by the Bristol Cathedral Trust, has now raised almost £1.5m.

The organ, originally built in 1685, requires extensive renovations to preserve its sound and continue its role as lynchpin of the cathedral proud tradition of choral music.

VWV managing partner Simon Heald said: “It has been our pleasure to help the Harry Crook Foundation facilitate such an extraordinary donation to one of Bristol’s most iconic religious landmarks. The donation will go a long way to ensuring that the cathedral’s music will be experienced by many more generations to come.”

Harry Crook Foundation trust chairman Richard West, who is Harry Crook’s great-nephew, added: “My co-trustees and I are delighted to support this wonderful project which we are sure Harry Crook would have been excited to be part of. Harry loved to support the city and people of Bristol and had a great fondness for the Cathedral and for its outstanding choral work.”
