Areas with themes such as Egyptian gods, Merlin’s cave, a Tardis and a banqueting hall feature in Bristol’s latest co-working hub.
DeskLodge, which already operates a flexible working location in the city, is close to completing phase one of its new site, pictured right, across three floors of Beacon Tower on The Centre, pictured below.
Describing by Desklodge as “unique and quirky”, the 18,000 sq ft in one of the city’s tallest buildings, will be made up of 26 private offices, 289 dedicated desks, 60 hot desks, and six meeting rooms with capacity for five-12 people.
And in keeping with what Desklodge calls its “quintessential aesthetic”, there will also be nine team booths and eight phone booths, while the furniture will also primarily be upcycled or restored pieces.
Tenants are now moving into the private offices before the rest of the development opens its doors in September.
Desklodge’s first Bristol hub – in 1 Temple Way, better known as the Evening Post building – was named one of the 15 coolest offices in the World by the Daily Telegraph shortly after it opened in 2015.
In 2018 the hub relocated to the former Unum building on Redcliffe Way. Now called Desklodge House, pictured below, it provides six floors of co-working spaces less than three minutes’ walk from Temple Meads railway station.
DeskLodge founder Tom Ball said he was excited to bring another industry-leading co-working space to a city which has seen an explosion of similar flexible-working hubs in recent years.
“We’ve been in Bristol for many years in Redcliffe but can’t wait to open in the iconic Beacon Tower in the beating heart of the city,” he said.
“We are famous for offering unique and fully bespoke workspaces and this will be our finest yet.
“Bristol is renowned for being one of Europe’s creative hubs, and we think that Desklodge in Beacon Tower will offer some of the region’s most exciting start-ups and entrepreneurs an environment that they can grow and thrive in.”
The new space is suitable for single-person start-ups to established organisations of up to 30 people.
DeskLodge, which was named in The Times ‘Best Places to Work 2023’, also has a site in central Reading. It plans to open in 20 locations by 2030.
Recent research conducted by DeskLodge found 37% of business leaders considered an office space which offers collaboration opportunities as vital to their company culture.
Additionally, 46% cited operating from a premises that could offer flexibility for a distributed workforce as a key driver for moving into a co-working space, with 37% saying they offered cost-effectiveness for scaling-up quickly.
Tom added; “At DeskLodge we pride ourselves on creating spaces where people want to be.
“All our hubs are inclusive and collaborative spaces that inspire those working there, and Beacon Tower will be no different. It will be a world-class ‘destination’ workspace that will continue to push Bristol forward as a city in which anything is possible.”
