A flexible approach to working, generous family leave support and later-in-life-programmes have led to Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT being named as one of the UK’s top family-friendly and flexible employers.

TLT was included on the list produced by national charity Working Families after introducing a number of market-leading initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive working environment, underpinned by a robust programme to support working parents.

Now in its 15th year, the prestigious and competitive Working Families list features employers from across public, private and third sectors that have gone above and beyond to build working environments to support working families.

Employers are assessed using Working Families’ benchmarking system and also scored in key areas to build a comprehensive picture of practices that specifically support parents and carers.

TLT chief people office Helen Hodgkinson, pictured, said the world of work had changed and it was important businesses adopted new ways of working, or they risked losing out on valuable talent and getting left behind.

“TLT is a passionate supporter and advocate of helping all of our people balance home and work commitments, recognising family support is not exclusive to women,” she added.

“Securing a spot on Working Families’ list of top employers for working families is hugely competitive and coveted by hundreds of businesses across the UK.

“Our inclusion in this year’s list is confirmation that TLT is a top player when it comes to supporting working parents.

“We’re hugely proud of this achievement and will continue to advocate for policies that promote family support and provide all carers with the ability to contribute to their own circumstances.”

TLT has more than 160 partners and around 1,600 employees across its seven offices.

Working Families CEO Jane van Zyl said it was inspiring to see its benchmarked employers leading the way in flexible, family-friendly workplaces.

“With 85% starting with job design for flexible roles and 96% having strategic plans for family-friendly support, they’re making flexible work a reality,” she added.

“Nearly all provide line manager training and encourage managers to work flexibly, showing a strong commitment to inclusive work environments.”

TLT’s appearance in the Working Families list follows its appointment to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Flexible and Family-Friendly Working and the launch of its leading neurodiversity support, which covers private testing and diagnosis for employees’ partners and children.

The firm’s flexible working approach – called TLT World – won an award at the Legal Cheek Awards in May and was a significant contributor to the firm winning law firm of the year three years in a row at The Lawyer Awards 2021, the British Legal Awards 2022 and the Legal Business Awards in 2023.
