Leading licensing lawyer Ewen Macgregor has joined TLT’s licensing team, further building on Bristol-headquartered national law firm’s specialisms in the leisure, food & drink and retail & consumer goods sectors, in which it acts for many of the UK’s leading brands.

Ewen, pictured, joins from Bristol and London firm Gregg Latchams, where he has been associate director of regulatory & licensing for nearly two years.

Prior to that he was a partner in the Bristol office of national firm Womble Bond Dickinson. In total he has more than 20 years’ experience in the sector, including seven as legal counsel for the Gala Coral Group.

His clients include hotel, theatre, leisure, food and drink and motorway service station brands and he advises national and regional clients on a wide range of licensing and regulatory issues.

TLT’s Bristol-based licensing team is further expanded with the appointments of Jo Brown and Naomi Jenkins as legal assistants.

The new team will work with the firm’s existing Band 1-listed licensing partners Bristol-based Matthew Phipps – who was named in the Chambers 2020 legal directory as a ‘star individual – Stephen McGowan and Caroline Loudon in Scotland.

Ewen, who was voted Licensing Lawyer of the Year UK at the Lawyer Monthly Legal Awards 2017 in recognition of his experience and success for clients, is listed in Ban 2 in Chambers.

TLT partner Matthew Phipps said: “Ewen, Jo and Naomi are a great addition to our already strong multi-jurisdictional licensing team. We see significant opportunities for growth and I am sure that their arrival will help us to go from strength to strength.”

Ewen Macgregor added: “TLT’s licensing practice has long been recognised as a force to be reckoned with in the UK. I am particularly excited about the breadth and depth of services that we as a firm can offer to my clients, especially given TLT’s strength in real estate law.

“TLT has a clear focus on its priority sectors and I am looking forward to growing my practice with the firm.”

TLT partner partner Julia Lucas, who heads its cross-discipline leisure, food and drink team, said Ewen brought a wealth of experience and was regarded as a leading light in gambling law.

“The appointments will significantly enhance our national offering for leisure and retail clients, and complement the breadth of services that we can offer to businesses in these sectors,” she said.

TLT’s licensing team is also recognised by Legal 500 as Tier 1 in the South West and Scotland; Tier 2 in London, while Caroline, Matthew and Stephen are all recognised as leading individuals.
