Civic leaders across the world should “think Bristol” when they want to look at innovative ways of running their city, a powerful business event was told yesterday.

The Bristol Business Summit heard from a range of experts on the future of cities, tackling key issues such as transport, waste, technology and social cohesion.

The event, staged ahead of today’s gathering in Bristol of 18 mayors from cities across the globe, took as its starting point Bristol’s year as European Green Capital and how that had allowed the city to challenge conventional thinking on many issues relating to urban areas.

Summing up the event, which was held in the Passenger Shed at Temple Meads, Mayor of Bristol George Ferguson said he had been inspired by the speakers.

And he said he hoped delegates from outside of Bristol would take away the view that Bristol was taking an innovative approach to the challenges and thinking differently.

“I hope when you think differently, you will think Bristol,” he said.

A full report on the Bristol Business Summit will appear in next week’s Bristol Business News e-bulletin
