Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.
This week Sonja Jefferson and Sharon Tanton of digital marketing consultancy Valuable Content answer our 10 questions:
Film you watched?
- Sonja: Little Miss Sunshine – for the umpteenth time! I just think it’s hilarious.
- Sharon: Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – really funny and feel good.
Book you read?
- Sonja: A Voyage for Madmen by Peter Nichols. I saw them filming a boat called Teignmouth Electron on Bristol Docks recently and wondered why. Turns out this was Donald Crowhurst’s boat in his fateful single-handed sailing race around the world in 1968. The film will star Colin Firth as Donald Crowhurst.
- Sharon: Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel. It’s brilliantly accomplished but I am finding it hard work. So the last book I finished was The Girl on a Train by Paula Hawkins. Fantastic quick read.
Music you bought/downloaded?
- Leftfield’s new album Alternative Light Source. It’s like going back to the 90s, but better!
- I can’t remember – I stopped downloading music after I accidentally put my iPod through the washing machine!
Concert or play you went to?
- Sonja: Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra’s Carmina Burana at the Colston Hall.
- The Lion King – Hotwells School production. My three kids all went to Hotwells, and the Year 6 production is a bit of an institution, so I went even though they’ve all left. It was fab.
Sporting event you attended?
- Sonja: World Pilot Gig Rowing Championships in the Scilly Isles in May this year. I am part of a team at the Bristol Pilot Gig Club, so it was brilliant.
- Sharon: Seriously cannot think of one! Sport is definitely not my thing.
Holiday you went on?
- Isles of Scilly to see the gig rowing as above!
- I took my children to Rosie’s Little Village in Agistiri, Greece last summer. That was my last proper holiday. Last short break was walking in the Lake District.
Restaurant you ate in?
- Sonja: My local pub, the fabulous Lion in Cliftonwood. Delicious.
- Sharon: Birthday lunch in Rosemarino in Clifton.
Thing that annoyed you?
- Sonja: Those annoying ads that follow you all over the internet when you’ve left a website without buying something.
- Sharon: A van smashed into my parked car and drove off without stopping. That was officially very, very annoying.
Thing that made you laugh out loud?
- Sonja: Sharon’s rant about those same annoying ads.
- Sharon: I laugh a lot, so that’s hard to answer. There’s been a lot of laughter in the office recently thinking about the launch party of our latest marketing book and all the fun we had.
Piece of good advice you were given?
- Sonja: My Dad’s advice is to always step back and see the big picture, and start by asking why – it’s something I live by.
- Sharon: Trust your instincts!
