Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Naomi Gee, mortgage broker at Manning Gee Investments, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST: 

Film you watched? True Spirit – a movie based on the real-life adventures of Jessica Watson who, at age 16, became the youngest person to sail around the world non-stop and unassisted. A gripping story of sheer determination, perseverance and courage.

Book you read? Spare by Prince Harry. There is no doubt that this book has generated a lot of interest and discussion since its release. Whether you are a fan of the royal family or not, this is a book that is worth reading. It’s a captivating read, a real page-turner – I couldn’t put this book down. It’s certainly fascinating and thought provoking.

Music you bought/downloaded? Becky Hill. As a Welsh person, it’s not surprising that I enjoy singing. I love how upbeat and energetic Becky Hill’s tracks are. They’re perfect for singing along to.

Concert or play you went to? Take That. Although it was some years ago it was a great experience. You can’t beat the atmosphere at a live concert. It’s always amazing to see talented musicians perform live.

Sporting event you attended? A Manchester United game. Despite not being a fan, I attended a football match at Old Trafford solely to go on a shopping spree at the Trafford Centre afterwards!

Holiday you went on? Boston. Such a vibrant city with a rich history, diverse culture, and plenty of attractions to offer. I’d recommend a stroll along the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walk that takes you through 16 historic sites in Boston. Then head to the North End, Boston’s Little Italy, and enjoy some of the best Italian food in the city.

Restaurant you ate in? Mugshot in Bristol. If you’re a steak lover, Mugshot is definitely worth a visit. It offers a unique experience of cooking your own steak on a hot stone with various flavoured butters. Not only delicious, but a fun and interactive dining experience.

Thing that annoyed you? When someone scheduled a meeting and failed to show up.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? My friend got confused between a chiropractor and a chiropodist and ended up scheduling an appointment with the wrong professional. Despite complaining about her back, she was surprised when the chiropodist asked to examine her feet during the consultation, revealing her mistake.

Piece of good advice you were given? The encouraging quote that I hold onto is: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This quote by the American poet Maya Angelou reminds me of the importance of being kind, empathetic, and compassionate towards others. By treating others with kindness and respect, we can create a positive impact that will be remembered long after the specific words or actions have been forgotten.

Originally from South Wales, Naomi Gee is a mortgage broker at Bristol-based MGI Mortgages, part of Manning Gee Investments. After 15 years teaching at a primary school in South Wales, Naomi embarked on her current career in financial services as a mortgage and protection adviser. She has since helped countless numbers of people secure both residential and commercial mortgages. She unwinds by spending time by the coast, whether it’s a scenic walk or enjoying coffee and cake with her husband and family.
