Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Lhosa Daly, deputy director of Spike Island and chair of the Institute of Directors Bristol branch, answers our 10 questions.
Film you watched? I have been re-watching films by Ken Loach recently, having seen him speak at Watershed during the launch of the documentary Versus: The Life and Films of Ken Loach. My favourite is Looking for Eric.
Book you read? We host a monthly novel writers event at Spike Island which showcases debut novelists – this keeps me up to date with contemporary literature. However, I have just finished The Year of the Hare, a Finnish classic. Every chapter is a new adventure for a man who leaves his corporate life behind to live in the wild with a hare.
Music you bought or download? I suspect I won’t be downloading anything until I need to do revision for Glastonbury, so probably the Foo Fighters anda lot of drum and bass.
Sporting event you attended: Bristol Rugby v Worcester. I live close to Ashton Gate and enjoy hearing the roar of the rugby and football crowds from my house when the home team scores. I really hope Bristol Rugby stay up.
Holiday you went on: I have just spent a few days in France, celebrating my gran’s 90th birthday. We enjoyed the cheese, wine and sunshine enormously.
Restaurant you went to: I love a Sunday roast at the Rose of Denmark.
Thing that annoyed you: People not being engaged in their local community. There are lots of opportunities to have your say and to get involved. It’s really important to try and protect the services for those who need support at times like this.
Thing that made you laugh out loud: My chickens!
Piece of good advice you were given: This isn’t advice given directly to me – but I have a bit of a JFK obsession. ‘Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction’.
