Each week Bristol Business News gives a member of the business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Danny Bartlett, external affairs manager at Philip Morris Ltd, answers our 10 questions.
Film you watched? Spider-Man: Far From Home. I’m a huge Marvel Universe fan. I mean, 20-plus films all sharing one narrative. Genius!
Book you read? Cradle to Cradle by Michael Braungart and William McDonough. I recently started a Cambridge University course on Business Sustainability Management, which is an area I want to move into at Philip Morris. This book is about remaking the world by embracing the circular economy.
Music you bought/downloaded? I have a family Spotify subscription which gives me access to pretty much every artist on the plant. The last album I listened to was by C.A.S. I loved their new record so much I got tickets for their UK tour next year.
Concert or play you went to? I went to see Ben Howard twice in the space of two months. I absolutely love his music. It’s so moody but completely different to his first album which was far more commercial.
Sporting event you attended? I’m a big fan of rugby but also enjoy boxing and recently went to a bout at the O2 involving Dillian Whyte and a Cuban opponent who put it on him for 12 rounds. Exhilarating stuff.
Holiday you went on? I returned from Mallorca on September 14 with the family. I actually spent the first three days organising our wedding which takes place there next year. For those who haven’t been to Mallorca, I’d highly recommend it, especially if you’re an avid hiker or cyclist.
Restaurant you ate in? My partner and I went to one of Andreu Genestra’s restaurants in Mallorca for wedding tasting. The tuna brioche was out of this world! It was so good, in fact, that we booked him for the wedding.
Thing that annoyed you? Someone used me as a lectern to rest their iPad on while I was on the tube to work. To say I was annoyed is an understatement.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? I literally burst out laughing on the bus while watching Dave Chappelle’s latest Netflix show. I had the privilege of seeing him in Los Angeles a few years back. I didn’t actually know his comedy at the time. I am now his greatest fan.
Piece of good advice you were given? A colleague told me that I should learn the ability to reskill. You never know what is around the corner or how your industry may be disrupted by technology or automation. With that, I signed up to several courses on sustainability management which I am actively pursuing.
