Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.
This week Chris Miller, managing partner at Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby, answers our 10 questions.
Film you watched? Nocturnal Animals with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. My wife and I recently managed to sneak to a matinee performance to celebrate her birthday. The film was OK but being at the cinema in the afternoon felt very indulgent!
Book you read? Nutshell by Ian McEwan. The protagonist is an unborn baby inside the womb of his mother, sharing her wine habit, and listening in on her conversations!
Music you bought/downloaded? I think the last CD I bought was by David Bowie, which I still listen to almost daily.
Concert or play you went to? The Unthanks at St George’s – gorgeous music, gorgeous venue. We also went to a couple of the Old Vic’s 250th anniversary year plays this year – including a hilarious farcical take on Madam Bovary – it was outrageously funny
Sporting event you attended? Not including my son’s many events every weekend, it was watching Bristol Rugby get thrashed at my local ground Ashton Gate.
Holiday you went on? Japan. We wanted to do something a bit different with the kids before they all disappear and have lives of their own and Japan was a fantastic choice – just the right mix of familiarity (shopping and cities) and utter unfamiliarity (some weird customs and traditions). A fascinating holiday – I wish we could have stayed for longer.
Restaurant you ate in? Casa Mexicana. A favourite standby for family celebrations. When they realised we were celebrating they brought out one of the most interesting birthday cakes I have seen – a small candle on a slice of lime, atop a shot of tequila, with some salt on the side!
Thing that annoyed you? Few things annoy me, apart from inconsiderate people and drivers.
Thing that made you laugh out loud? Possibly the birthday cake at Casa Mexicana?
Piece of good advice you were given? Salt first, then tequila, then lime!
