Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Alex Hall, a partner at Bristol law firm Meade King, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Final Destination. My son loved it, but I spent most of the time behind a pillow. A fun yarn about destiny – though a bit too ‘American’ for me.

Book you read? Seabiscuit: Three Men and a Racehorse. I’m a fan of everything horsey. The book was made into a film, which I haven’t seen yet. I always do it that way round – I could never watch a film first then try to read the book.

Music you bought/downloaded? This is so embarrassing! The 1993 album Wait for Me by Kenny Thomas. I was feeling nostalgic. I remember listening to this when I was in my late teens (I am refusing to be more specific), living in digs in Birmingham. He had a great voice. Wasn’t he a boxer?

Concert or play you went to? I have children so I don’t get out very often! So I’m afraid it was James Morrison in 2016 at the Colston Hall, which was great.

Sporting event you attended? Badminton Horse Trials in May. It was a very warm day so walking the four-mile cross-country course with 40,000 other people was more challenging than most years.

Holiday you went on? Lyme Regis for the weekend. Just down the road. Very laid-back. Smashing!

Restaurant you ate in? The Mud Dock Café at the Floating Harbour in Bristol. I recently bought my new Pashley bicycle from the cycle shop downstairs too. It’s a classic ‘sit-up-and-beg’ model. Since falling from a horse a couple of years ago and breaking my arm I find that I cannot lean on normal handlebars like I used to.

Thing that annoyed you? Lots of things every day – but only momentarily. I also tend to forget about them almost as soon as they annoy me. I find life easier and happier that way.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? My three-year old son dancing…

Piece of good advice you were given? “If a job is worth doing, do it yourself”. It’s probably why I have always found it so hard to delegate. But after years of working at it, I am finally getting there.

Alex Hall was born in Gloucestershire and lives with his family near Stroud. A solicitor since 2007, he changed careers (from window cleaner, then police officer, then local authority enforcement officer) and became a lawyer a little later in life. A partner at Meade King Solicitors in Bristol since 2012, he practises corporate law, helping people buy and sell businesses and companies. He specialises in healthcare ventures and acting for dentists all over the UK. In what little spare time he has he likes to ride (and avoid falling from) his horse Jonny.
