The role of corporate governance in the success or failure of businesses will be outlined this evening to Bristol’s business community in a speech by the chairman of supermarket giant Tesco, Sir Richard Broadbent.

In a lecture entitled Individuals and organisations – the reality of corporate governance, Sir Richard will share his perspectives on the current debate about corporate governance.

Drawing on his own experiences, he will look at how boards work, identifying the qualities that constitute a good manager and what ultimately makes the difference between corporate success and failure.

Sir Richard, pictured, has been chairman of Tesco since 2011 and was previously deputy chairman of Barclays and chairman of Arriva.

He is the latest in a long line of high-profile business figures to speak at the Bristol Distinguished Executive Address Series (BDEAs) staged by the Bristol Business School at UWE.

The events offer a unique opportunity to hear about the challenges, issues and decisions being made at the highest level of strategic leadership, directly from the leaders of organisations driving UK business performance. This evening’s speech is at M Shed from 6pm.

Series organiser professor Nicholas O'Regan said: “We are delighted by the calibre of this year’s speakers. The series is an excellent opportunity for members of the business community in Bristol, as well as our own students, alumni and staff to hear directly from inspirational figures in industry with a wealth of strategic experience and leadership skills at the highest level.”

BDEA partners include ACCA, Bristol City Council, Business West, CBI, CMI, FSB, IoD, and the West of England LEP.
