Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT has appointed a new partner to its UK-wide banking and finance team, further cementing its position as a leader in sector.
Mark Thomas, pictured, joins from full-service global law firm Squire Patton Boggs, where he headed its structured finance practice for nine-and-a-half years.
TLT said he brought significant expertise in structured finance, real estate finance, securitisation, specialist lending and supply chain finance to the firm, which employs round 1,200 people across its six offices, including Bristol.
Mark has been a partner for more than 17 years, having previously led the structured finance practice at Addleshaw Goddard.
He advises clients on a range of finance matters, acting for banks, borrowers, originators, issuers, servicers, special servicers and trustees in relation to UK and cross-border transactions.
At TLT, he will play an important role in the strategic growth of the banking and finance team as part of the firm’s efforts to further develop this practice area on a national level.
His responsibilities will include advising some of TLT’s key sector clients on a wide variety of specialist finance projects.
In addition, he will work closely with TLT teams across other sectors such as litigation, corporate, data protection and employment, supporting them with core finance expertise.
Mark will also continue to have an active role in trainee recruitment and development, which he has enjoyed for the past 20 years of his career.
TLT partner Jon Stewart said the firm was delighted to welcome Mark to the banking and finance team.
“Mark has built a strong reputation as a top lawyer in his field and will be brilliant addition to our team, adding strength and depth to our structured finance offering and helping us to continue delivering high-quality results for our clients,” he added.
Mark said it was a really exciting time to be joining TLT, following it winning The Lawyer’s Law Firm of the Year award in 2021, and the more recent Best UK Law Firm win at the British Legal Awards.
“I’m looking forward to becoming part of a well-established team, and hope that with my client relationships and expertise, I can play a significant part in getting TLT to where it needs to be on a national level in the banking space,” he said.
