Strong growth at road maintenance and waste group set to continue as it doubles recycling capacity

Bristol highways maintenance and recycling company ETM is due to report record financial results while also preparing for further growth with a new plant that will double the amount of waste it can recycle.

The group, based at Ashton Vale, South Bristol, is set to announce annual turnover of £18.3m – a 24% year-on-year increase. The growth was partly due to a busy period for its waste management division, which contributed a 35% increase on turnover, while its recycling division achieved 180% turnover growth to £7.6m.

Further expansion is on the cards following a £4m investment in a new zero waste-to-landfill recycling plant – the first in the South West – which will be built on its existing site.

The plant, which is expected to open in March, will allow ETM to double the amount of waste accepted and processed from 70,000 tonnes to 140,000-plus tonnes a year.

It will also increase efficiency, reducing the time taken to process up to 100 tonnes of material from 24 hours to just one hour.

ETM Recycling director Amy McCormack, daughter of ETM founder Eddie McCormack, said: “We have grown massively in the last couple of years and our turnover for the year demonstrates this. But as a company we are not standing still and the new plant will push us on even further and allow us to build on our initial success. We certainly expect to double our turnover within the next two to three years.

“£4m is a huge investment, but it will place us very much at the forefront of the recycling industry.”

Family-run ETM Recycling, which has been in business since 1994, offers waste management, recycling and skip hire and is one of the few waste firms in Bristol to achieve a recycling rate of more than 94%.
