Start-up loan gives Trunki inventor’s new kids’ sleep aid product a dream start as sales surge

Bristol serial entrepreneur Rob Law, best known for his Trunki ride-on kids’ suitcase, has launched his latest venture – a sleep training clock.

Called Zeepy, it is aimed at children aged between two and six and uses melatonin-friendly lighting to help foster a more restful sleep. 

To complement the clock, Rob, pictured far right – who was famously rejected by the panel on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den in 2006 when he pitched for a £100,000 investment in Trunki – has developed a library of expert-backed content such as meditative podcasts that are deeply rooted in child psychology.

Inconsistent sleep patterns are proven to have a negative effect on children, and Rob’s new venture will support parents in establishing healthier sleep patterns and developing better sleep hygiene routines.

Zeepy has already received a £25,000 start-up loan from SWIG Finance, which supports businesses that cannot secure sufficient finance from their bank.

Rob said: “Securing the start-up loan was a pivotal moment for Zeepy. As sales surged faster than we anticipated, we faced a critical cashflow gap that could have hindered our growth.

“SWIG Finance provided the ideal solution. The application process was swift and straightforward. 

“I simply integrated my business plan into their template and within weeks the funds were in my account.

“This loan has allowed us to meet customer demand and continue our upward trajectory.”

SWIG start-up loans senior manager Jo MacEachen added: “Rob has an impressive background ranging from industrial design and product development to marketing and importing and exporting.

Rob went on to sell around 5m Trunkis alongside a range of other children’s products such as scooters, neck pillows and swim bags designed to make life less stressful when travelling with children.

Last year Magmatic, his Bristol-based firm behind these products, was sold to UK-headquartered Buyer Heroes, an international group of baby, juvenile and maternity brands for a reported £12m.
