Research and development tax credits and the Patent Box regime will come under the microscope at an event in Bristol next month hosted by the city office of financial and professional services firm Smith & Williamson.
The event, called Patent Protection and Tax Incentives for Companies, is aimed at finance directors, entrepreneurs and other senior directors, and takes place on Thursday, October 10, in Smith & Williamson’s Portwall Place office.
Experts Clare Anderson, who works at Smith & Williamson, and George Tebbutt of Haseltine Lake Kempner will use practical examples and draw on their experiences to outline how these incentives fit into the research and development cycle, and how to leverage innovation and intellectual property to make successful R&D and Patent Box claims.
Clare, pictured, is a senior manager in Smith & Williamson’s Bristol office and leads R&D and Patent Box advisory for the South West.
Having worked as a tax advisor since 2006 in various roles, her experience spans a broad range in multiple jurisdictions.
She said: “R&D tax credits and the Patent Box regime were created as incentives to encourage companies to invest in innovation in the UK.
“Through these systems, extensive tax relief is available for a wider range of activity than many companies realise, and there are some recent changes to be aware of to make the most of the benefits available.”
George is a partner at Haseltine Lake Kempner, one of Europe’s leading IP firms focusing on patents, trademarks and IP litigation. He is a patent attorney advising UK and overseas clients on the provision and enforcement of patents in Europe and throughout the world.
The event starts at 8am. For further information contact Jessica Thompson on 0117 376 2368 or email bristol-events@smithandwilliamson.com
