The Bristol office of independent professional and financial services group Smith & Williamson is further expanding its private client tax team with the appointment of leading private client tax specialist Ruth Mower as senior manager.

Her role is to develop and grow the office’s trust and executorships offering – headed up by Jerry Barnes, who joined just over a year ago – building on existing clients and experience and offering the service to other Smith & Williamson departments.

Ruth has more than 20 years of trust tax, accounts and administration experience including 11 at Saffery Champness, where Mr Barnes was Bristol office partner, and more recently five at KPMG in Bristol where she helped to head a team of seven, overseeing the compliance and administration of a large range of family trusts on behalf of the company.

Ruth, who is a member of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP) and is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), said: “I’m delighted to be joining such a forward thinking and dynamic firm with a clear focus on promoting its private client tax services within the business and throughout the South West.”

Mr Barnes added: “I’m thrilled that we have appointed Ruth to senior manager of private client tax services and look forward to working with her to develop the high-quality, personal private client service offering already available from our Bristol office.”

Smith & Williamson has ambitions to make its Bristol office the highest-rated private client office in the South West, with tax and business advice taking a prominent place alongside investment management and other services.
