Skills Junction portal puts businesses on right road to access training information

A new web portal that brings together all the training providers in the South West for the first time has gone live.

Skills Junction, developed by the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Skills team, was launched earlier this week at a conference in Bristol for educators, skills providers, employers and careers advisers.

The move means that businesses searching for training courses in the region need only go to one place, regardless of the subject.

The portal instantly scans thousands of courses across hundreds of providers and lists the links for users. Previously they would have needed to search scores of databases to get the same information.

The portal is divided into two sections – for businesses and for individuals – to ensure their searches are relevant. Businesses can search for courses that could up-skill their staff or find courses where individuals with the right skills are taught. Individuals can search for relevant local courses for themselves.

West of England LEP director for skills Jane Middleton said: “This is a major achievement, not only for us but for the thousands of businesses based in the South West that now have access to training providers they might not necessarily have found.

“Our aim is to help businesses find courses that will promote growth through developing their workforce, ensuring they have the skills required to assist productivity.

“The Skills Junction portal is the first of its kind and we’re proud of what it can achieve for businesses.”
