Phineas, the Bristol firm which designs and manufactures footwear hangers for the world’s largest brands and retailers, has bought its own head office as it continues to grow.
The 1,978 sq ft base at The Paintworks creative hub on Bath Road, pictured, is enabling it to speed up development of new hanger designs.
It has created an in-house retail area to test and showcase its hangers, a dedicated prototyping area with the latest 3D rapid prototyping machinery and a creative space that reflects the brand and its employees.
The firm also has a 18,000 sq ft state-of-the-art plastic injection moulding factory in Hengrove.
Phineas was set up in 1984 and started out selling a small range of hangers to a few retailers. Today, it works with leading brands such as Marks & Spencer, Next and Under Armour and supplies products to more than 20 countries worldwide.
Retailers are increasingly using hangers to display footwear in stores as they enable shoppers to serve themselves, maximise the use of retail space and improve stock control.
It has rapidly expanded in recent years, strengthening its customer services, design, tool-making, engineering, marketing and sales operations. As well as Bristol, it has offices in the US and Hong Kong and manufactures in the UK and China.
The firm has moved from rented accommodation at One Temple Way to Units 7.17 and 7.18 in the Art Deco building that forms the centrepiece of Paintworks.
The company acquired the long leasehold interest off a quoting price of £575,000.
Phineas managing director Dan Wright said: “Having experienced two years of rapid growth, our new head office puts us in a very strong position to speed up development of new hanger designs as well as enhance our customer service and supply chain management.”
The Bristol office of property agents Alder King acted for Paintworks developer Verve Investments on the Phineas deal.
Alder King associate Tom Dugay said: “The Paintworks continues to attract a vibrant mix of occupiers. A growing community of more than 50 of Bristol’s most creative and successful companies now call The Paintworks their home.”
