Director of the Bristol’s SETsquared Centre, Nick Sturge, has received an award for his ‘outstanding contribution to business incubation’.
Nick, who has led the centre at the University of Bristol since 2006, received the award at the conference of the UKBI, the n
ational trade body for business incubators.
Four years ago Bristol SETsquared Centre collected the award for Best Established Business Incubator.
The centre, part of the SETsquared Partnership – an enterprise collaboration of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey – accelerates hi-tech, high-growth start-up and early stage businesses. It is supporting nearly 60 businesses between them employing more 500 people and turning over £21m a year. None of the businesses it has supported since 2007 have failed.
Nick said: “Bristol is a thriving city for hi-tech businesses and we are proud to be doing our bit to help grow new businesses and create high-value jobs.”
UKBI chairman David Rowe added: “Certain individuals stand out and UKBI has had the privilege of working with, and learning from, Nick for many years. Since 2006 he has led a business incubation environment in the South West of England from strength to strength, and has led the regional network of practitioners to become the largest of its kind in the UK. He is entrepreneurial and innovative in his approach and is a pillar of the business incubation and business growth community in the UK.”
