The complex tax issues faced by housing providers will come under the spotlight later this month at a seminar hosted in Bristol by business advisory firm Grant Thornton.
The half-day event is aimed at finance and development professionals and takes place at the firm’s Victoria Street offices on Thursday, April 25.
Grant Thornton tax professionals will focus on issues such as VAT reliefs and development planning for VAT, the VAT and corporate tax implications for mixed use development, and Stamp Duty Land Tax acquisitions by housing associations – known as “registered providers” (RPs).
Meanwhile Stephen McNamara, a consultant at Bristol law firm Veale Wasbrough Vizards, will give a legal perspective with emphasis on the impact of the Community Infrastructure Levy.
Grant Thornton regional head of indirect taxes Sally McKinlay, pictured, said: “Registered providers are under increasing pressure to provide affordable housing and ‘get more from less’.
“This means that, as well as understanding all the tax compliance obligations, they need to make the most of all available opportunities to reduce tax costs. This seminar will cover the key practical tax issues that RPs need to consider when looking to carry out property development in the most efficient way.”
