Bristol law firm Bevans Bray Walker has been closed by The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Administrators from Grant Thornton have been appointed while London law firm Russell Cooke has collected clients' files, a move that the SRA says will protect the immediate position and safeguard documents and clients’ money.
Bevans Bray Walker specialised in employment law, commercial litigation and financial services litigation. The SRA’s action relates to the firm and its principals, Alexander Henry Bevan and Guy Robin Hollebon. No such resolution was passed in relation to Robert Jones, Hugh Feeny and Stephen Brice who continue to hold unconditional practicing certificates.
Mr Bevan is listed at Companies House as a director of The Bristol Law Society and a member of the 2011 council of the society.
The SRA can act if it suspects dishonesty, if a registered sole practitioner has been made bankrupt, sent to prison or struck off, if a practice has been abandoned or if there have been "serious breaches" of the accounts rules. In this case, the regulation authority has not disclosed any information relating to its intervention.
Nigel Morrison and Alistair Wardell of Grant Thornton have been appointed joint administrators and the company, based in Grove Road, Redland, is to be wound up.
