Bristol’s ground-breaking Happy City initiative is developing a Happiness Hub to offer office accommodation to businesses and organisations sharing its ambitions.
Its new head office in Stokes Croft – an area of the city famous for its creativity and vibrancy – has space for organisations which “promote work that increases happiness and where happiness skills, events, measures and communications are actively encouraged and supported”.
Happy City was set up two years ago by former regional director of Business in the Community Mike Zeidler, his partner Liz and a group of volunteers, to promote the idea of measuring prosperity in terms of happiness rather than economic growth.
Since then it has achieved extraordinary success with a number of projects, including organising a major part of Bristol’s recent Harbour Festival in just 21 days.
It hopes its new co-operative workspace will become a magnet for champions of happiness-centred municipal and commercial development.
Mike, pictured, said: “We’re looking for like-minded businesses, charities and social enterprises that place the highest value not on material gain but on the power of people working together to achieve change and lasting happiness.
“Education, community development, media, events, communications and business support are already in the mix.
“Happy City has phenomenal connections, inspiring experience and skills and a serious message, but we thrive on laughter, debate, energy and cake.”
The office is open between 8.45am and 5pm. Contracts are monthly, there is free wi-fi and two meeting rooms including a library.
