Accountancy group KPMG UK has appointed David Williams as senior partner for its South West region, which includes its Bristol office. He replaces Ian Brokenshire, who is retiring after 35 years with firm.

In his new role David, pictured right, will lead more than 700 staff across the region, which also takes in its bases in Cardiff and Plymouth.

He moves to the role after more than 12 years in senior leadership positions, both globally and in the UK.

He has a wealth of experience across the private and transport sectors and has worked in the firm’s infrastructure, government and healthcare practice. He also recently lead the firm’s Cardiff office as its office senior partner.

The new South West leadership team will also include Cardiff partner Jeremy Thomas and Plymouth director Andrew Gordon.

Ian Brokenshire, pictured below,  who joined KPMG in 1988 as a graduate, has worked in the South West for more than three decades, with a particular focus on advising private businesses.

He has served as the Bristol office senior partner for the past three years and will retire in September to pursue part-time non-executive director and advisory roles.

David Williams said: “I am excited to be leading our work in the region and building on the momentum in the market as client needs continue to evolve.

“The South West is dynamic, has an interesting business make-up, and continues to attract talent and significant investment due to its connectivity and vibrant community.

“We have a talented team on the ground, as well as a strong market presence, and I’m looking forward to working even more closely with our audit, tax, deals and advisory teams to continue delivering for our clients.”

“Ian has been central to the work that KPMG does in the region and leaves a lasting legacy in the business community.”

Ian added: “It has been an honour to lead the Bristol and Plymouth offices and successfully support and provide insights and value to all the businesses I’ve had the opportunity to work with.

“I look forward to seeing how the South West businesses market continues to grow and evolve over the next few years, especially in the energy and technology sectors.

“I wish David all the best in the role. His experience, particularly spanning across both the private and public sector, and ties to the region mean that he is best placed to take our work in the region forward and continue growing the team.”
