Triodos Bank UK, the Bristol-based sustainable banking group, has strengthened the wellbeing sector of its business banking team with the appointment of Tony Kear as senior relationship manager.

Triodos said the appointment continued its work in assisting businesses to deliver positive social and environmental impact across the UK, with a particular focus on the South West.

Tony, pictured, has nearly 40 years’ experience in banking and corporate finance, having previously held positions at major high street banks including RBS, NatWest and Barclays.

He most recently spent four years at Azzets Capital, where he was its relationship director of South West and Wales. Prior to that he worked for nearly six years in the Bristol branch of Handelsbanken.

He has dedicated nearly two decades to specialising in the changing needs of the healthcare sector and, more recently, residential property development.

Since joining Triodos, Tony has already overseen transactions that will enable specialised care businesses to expand, helping to support the care of the most vulnerable people in society in regulated or supported living settings across the UK.

He said Triodos’ ethical mission to change banking and the planet motivated him to join the team.

“With a shared commitment and clear growth plans to support the changing needs of the healthcare, education, childcare, arts and culture and recreational sectors within our wellbeing theme we will continue to build on the positive social impact of Triodos Bank UK,” he added.

Netherlands-headquartered Triodos Bank, which has operated in the UK for nearly 30 years, focuses on making money work for positive change.

Its business banking team includes 30-plus relationship and corporate finance managers structured to cover five areas of expertise that will help the bank and its clients work towards a more sustainable future.

The wellbeing team covers sectors including education, healthcare and childcare, as well as arts, culture and leisure.

Triodos’ recent business banking activity in these sectors has included development funding for a 103-bed care home and a highly specialised school campus

Triodos Bank UK director of business banking Phill Bate said he was delighted to have Tony join the team.

“His previous experience will allow us to build our lending within the healthcare sector and widen the positive social and environmental impact we work towards at Triodos,” he added.
