Clive Burlton has joined public relations firm Empica as a non-executive director to help spearhead expansion plans. The company, which has headquarters in Long Ashton and a satellite office in London, provides publicity services to major businesses across the country.
Mr Burlton, a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, was formerly investor relations manager and head of human resources at Wessex Water and has held key communication roles within Lloyds Banking Group as well as providing strategic advice to major companies.
Empica managing director Martin Powell said: “The last three years have been tough in the media sector as the twin effects of a fast-changing media scene and the recession have created a challenging environment. We believe the time is right to expand. We will be providing businesses that have a strong interest in the South West with an agency that has the resources to carry out all its publicity needs from strategic support at board level, crisis management through stakeholder relations to managing and creating media exposure. Clive’s experience is just what we need to support those plans.”
Clive added: “I have known Martin and the team at Empica for many years and have been impressed with the service they provide, so it is exciting to now join the team. We will be looking for new clients that will benefit from the services of a dynamic PR and marketing agency.
“A number of individuals have started small PR agencies in the last few years and we are keen to talk to those that have been successful and are now facing challenges as they expand. Empica has roots going back 21 years, as it was formerly Martin Powell Communications, so it is an experienced business with a wide range of clients.”
Among Empica clients are electricity generator Npower, long-established holiday business Bakers Dolphin, global property agency Colliers International and business space providers SEGRO.
