Specialist legal insurer ARAG, which has its UK head office in Bristol, has appointed Chris Neill as partner and head of volume litigation in its legal division.

Chris, pictured, was previously at DAS Law, part of Bristol-based DAS which was acquired by ARAG a year ago in a move that created a major new force in the specialist UK insurance market. Now branded as ARAG Law, it operates as a law firm servicing legal expense claims.

Chris joined DAS in 2018 as a senior associate early and rose to the position of principal associate with responsibility for people and performance across the contract and landlord & tenant teams.

He started his legal career at Cardiff law firm Hugh James, before joining BLM – also in Cardiff – where he worked for more than five years, completing his training and rising to the role of associate.

He is the latest in a string of former DAS UK staff to be appointed to key roles in ARAG UK.

ARAG chief customer officer Brynley Case said: “As head of volume litigation, Chris has now taken on responsibility for a large team, with oversight across ARAG Law’s volume personal injury, landlord & tenant and contract teams.”

Launched in the UK from Bristol in 2006, ARAG provides a comprehensive suite of ‘before-the-event’ and ‘after-the-event’ legal expenses insurance products and assistance solutions to protect both businesses and individuals.

It is part of the global ARAG Group, the largest family-owned enterprise in the German insurance industry.

Following its acquisition of DAS UK, which was also German owned, has been rolling out a range of ‘best-in-class’ products to sell through its broker, insurer and MGA (managing general agent) partners.

ARAG’s acquisition of DAS UK created a business with a combined workforce of around 800 staff in Bristol.
