Travis Perkins, the UK’s largest builders’ merchant, is to extend its branch network in Bristol following the acquisition of a site in St Philips.
The former Motus Group UK base on Days Road, pictured, is to be redeveloped as a new state-of-the-art flagship branch.
Travis Perkins, which was advised by Bristol-headquartered property agency Alder King on the freehold deal, has submitted a planning application to create a new 20,000 sq ft depot on the 2.7-acre site. The group operates six branches around Bristol and around 600 across the UK.
Motus Group UK is the parent company of Motus Commercials, the largest independent commercial vehicle dealer group in the UK with 30 locations. The sale of its St Philips site will enable it to relocate to new premises in Avonmouth.
Will Moss of Travis Perkins said: “The acquisition of this site is an important opportunity to further strengthen our network of branches across Bristol, with the site occupying a high profile location in a well-established trade counter area. We hope to have this new branch open for trade by early 2022.”
Alder King lead industrial/logistics partner Andrew Ridler added: “It’s unusual for a site like this to become available in this central Bristol location and in a highly competitive environment Travis Perkins reacted quickly to secure the property.”
Motus, which specialises in new and used DAF trucks and VW, Ford and Fiat vans, was advised by Knight Frank and NG Chartered Surveyors.
Motus Group UK head of property James Scholter said the deal had been a very positive experience. “Working with NG Chartered Surveyors director Sunny Landa and the NG team has meant we were able to release the property and land to the market in a quick, efficient manner, with the minimum of fuss.
“The transaction enabled us to complete a full relocation of our Bristol site and its services to our new, larger location in Avonmouth that is currently undergoing a £1.5m investment,” he added.
