Each fortnight Creative Business News gives a prominent member of the region’s creative sector the chance to reflect on their career, their work and their ambitions by answering 10 questions about themselves.
Job title: Graphics and technical co-ordinator
Current company: Floating Harbour Films
Age: 23
My big break: I’ve not had mine yet. But I guess the most significant moment in my career would be getting the full-time job I’m currently in.
My first job: Ever? Gardener for my dyslexia teacher.
My current role: Always an interesting one in my sector, because gone are the days of ‘The cameraman’ or ‘The editor’. Most people are forced to be multi-talented and find it hard to specialise. I personally love the diversity. I am a cameraman, editor, compositor, grip, director (every now and then) and general tech guy. I love it.
My typical day: There is no such thing. Every day is different. Sometimes I find myself trying to get one of our rusty anchors (we work on a boat) out of the water. Other days, I’m shooting a documentary on the Turkish-Syrian border.
My proudest moment/project: Directing films for the Olympics in Mexico with my best friend and co-worker in Mexico.
My best piece of advice: The difference between academia and industry in the digital creative sector is huge – choose industry and self-learn.
My ambition (that I haven’t yet achieved): To direct a feature.
My favourite creative work/campaign (that I haven’t worked on): Human, a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand
My predictions for the creative sector: Who am I to speculate . . .
My inspiration: Anything that has the power to make you think about something differently. And Nolan . . . of course Nolan . . .
