Three apprentices have started out on their legal careers at Bristol-headquartered national law firm Bevan Brittan – its second intake this financial year as business volumes continue to grow.
The new arrivals follow on from a cohort of three who joined the firm last September, in addition to its graduate trainees.
Bevan Brittan’s apprenticeship scheme is open to school leavers who have completed their A levels. Successful candidates undertake a two-year programme at the firm during which they will achieve CILEx accredited qualifications, setting them on the path to becoming a Chartered Legal Executive.
The apprentices spend four days a week working alongside solicitors in Bevan Brittan’s offices and one day a week studying for their academic qualification. All qualification fees and costs are paid for by the firm, in addition to which the apprentices receive a salary – making it an attractive route into the legal profession.
Bristol-based apprentice Laura Pearce said the attraction for her was “on-the-job experience” combined with “the option for further progression in the future.” Dean Humphries, who will be based in the firm’s Birmingham office, described the apprenticeship as “a perfect route to becoming a solicitor without the debt and demand of university,” while Jonathan Whitaker, who will be based in Leeds, added that apprenticeships give “invaluable practical experience”.
Bevan Brittan managing partner Duncan Weir said: “We are delighted to welcome a new intake of apprentices to Bevan Brittan. We know that, in order to attract the best talent available, we need to offer multiple pathways into the firm. Our apprenticeship scheme is an important supplement to our graduate intake.
“This is our second intake of apprentices during the financial year, which we are able to make due to our continued expansion and business growth. These are all talented individuals who have the potential to forge successful careers as lawyers, and I wish them every success in their time with us.”
The latest apprentices have joined four months on from what was Bevan Brittan’s largest number of graduate trainees and apprentices for seven years when 11 graduate trainees and three apprentices took up roles at the firm in Bristol and across its offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London.
In total Bevan Brittan employs 52 partners and nearly 300 staff.
