MITIE, the Bristol-based strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has crowned an exceptional month with an agreement that takes the total value of deals in September to more than £1bn.
It has successfully retained and expanded a contract to provide integrated facilities management (FM) and energy services to the Cumbrian Collaboration which includes Sellafield Limited, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Direct Rail Services, Low Level Waste Repository Limited and International Nuclear Services.
The FTSE-250 company has been awarded the contract for five years, with a possible extension to a seven-year maximum. It will cover more than 500 buildings across the UK, with major activity in Sellafield, Cumbria and Cheshire, and has an estimated total value of £200m over the term of the contract. MITIE will start the enlarged integrated FM contract in January 2012.
More than 500 people will be employed as part of the contract and the services provided will include building maintenance; security; cleaning; waste management; catering and other FM and energy services.
The company sees the new deal, which builds on its 11-year relationship with both Sellafield and the NDA, as a testament to the quality of its service and strong health and safety record.
The contract was tendered through the Government Procurement Service (formerly the Office of Government and Commerce Buying Solutions), Facilities Management Framework Agreement.
MITIE chief executive Ruby McGregor-Smith said: "This is another excellent contract award for MITIE and we are delighted to be developing our strategic relationship with the Cumbrian Collaboration. We have an extensive track record of supporting them in the management of their estate and look forward to working with them to provide world-class outsourced and energy services in the coming years."
Other business won this month underlines the range and scope of MITIE's services, covering the spectrum from Essex County Council and the West Midlands Construction Framework (primarily Birmingham City Council) to Heathrow Airport, Cambridge University, a couple of hospitals and drinks giant Diageo.
