Plans for another major development in North Bristol – which would create more than one million sq ft of mixed-use space – have been submitted to council planners.
The 65-acre vacant site next to the A38, which includes the former Rolls-Royce East Works, already has outline consent for 1,211,715 sq ft (112,572 sq m) of offices, industrial, storage and distribution space, plus a hotel.
Permission was granted in 2009 and extended for a further three years in 2012.
The scheme is the latest in a string of huge projects in Filton and Patchway that are set to transform the areas.
Thousands of homes are being built at the new Charlton Hayes development alongside the former Filton Airfield while thousands more are planned for sites near Cribbs Causeway and on the airfield itself. These schemes also include significant plots earmarked for employment use.
The latest planning applications has been lodged with South Gloucestershire Council by Clifton-based planning and urban design consultancy Origin3 on behalf of MSF Filton – a joint venture between London-based international property group Marcol and the Midlands-based property managers St Francis Group.
Work on the site could start as early as the end of this year once planning permission has been granted.
Gareth Williams of MSF Filton said: “The delivery of this site is an important part of the economic strategy for the area and will help create a substantial number of new jobs across a range of sectors.”
The plans include 621,093 sq ft (57,701 sq m) of industrial and distribution units, 234,332 sq ft (21,770 sq m) of offices, plus a 99,653 sq ft (9,258 sq m) hotel as well as car dealerships and ancillary space.
Rolls-Royce moved out of the former East Works – parts of which dated from the Second World War – to a nearby custom-built factory in October 2008. The plant manufactures military aero and naval engines.
