Archery GB, the sport’s national governing body, has appointed McCann Bristol’s PR team to raise its profile ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics.
McCann will specifically promote the performance and development aspects of Archery GB across the UK with the main aim for its athletes to reach Games.
The PR team has already started to raise the profile of athletes and associated initiatives, including promoting the National Series Finals which took place in Nottingham in September and which attracted a record number of people.
It has also helped Archery GB generate media coverage for the launch of three regional performance academies which represent a step change in the sport and how young archery talent is being developed.
The academies are at Bishop Burton College near Hull, Hartpury College near Gloucester and Lilleshall National Sports and Conferencing Centre in Shropshire, the home of Archery GB’s World Performance Programme.
McCann was selected for the account from a shortlist of three and following a comprehensive procurement process.
Archery GB marketing manager Sarah Booth said: “We were impressed with the work that McCann had delivered for our sponsors Foresters Friendly Society around last year’s Olympics and Paralympics.”
Head of PR at McCann Bristol, Patrick Fraser, added: “The team here are hugely passionate about sport and have years of experience working with the media in this field.
“As such, we are thrilled to be helping Archery GB continue to raise the profile of the sport. We are looking forward to working with the organisation to raise the profile of the sport and build strong relations with the media to ensure Archery GB is on target for great success for Rio 2016.”
