Bristol’s burgeoning reputation as a media hub has been strengthened with the arrival of London TV post-production company Evolutions, which has worked on shows such as The Apprentice and The Only Way Is Essex.
The move, revealed by Bristol Business News last summer, has resulted in Evolutions taking 7,000 sq ft of space close to the BBC on Whiteladies Road, where it has opened a state-of-the art, 30-suite full service television post-production facility.
The firm has spent around £1m fitting out the building, including editing suites, two sound dubbing theatres and a colour grading suite. It will employ at least 20 staff, most of them new recruits
Evolutions, one of the largest independent full service post production companies in London’s Soho, chose Bristol as the location for its first base outside the capital because of the city’s growing reputation for TV production work. Bristol is increasingly viewed as part of the UK’s dynamic ‘media triangle’ with London and Manchester.
Evolutions managing director Simon Kanjee said: “Being close to our clients and others from our industry was key to choosing a location. In addition the layout of the building is critical to the set-up of the business. We had a good look at locations in the city but found the offices at Whiteladies Road suited us perfectly.”
The firm has taken over the 10-year lease on a period office building from previous tenant Foster Care Associates, which has moved to the Eden Office Park in Ham Green.
Andy Smith of property consultants Knight Frank advised landlord Hugh Taylor on the deal.
He said: “These two semi-detached period buildings sit in the heart of the city’s media district and are a few paces from the BBC’s regional headquarters, so the attraction for Evolutions is clear.”
Evolutions’ credits also include the BBC’s Watchdog programme, An Idiot Abroad (Sky1) and One Born Every Minute (Channel Four).
