Barnstorming versions of Teenage Kicks and Disco 2000 helped The Mighty Rufus clinch the coveted first prize in the Bristol law firm battle of the bands.
The five-piece band, drawn from Osborne Clarke and Bond Dickinson, wowed the 300-strong crowd at The Tunnels last night with a strong eight-song set which also featured covers of classics from The Killers and Kings of Leon.
They edged ahead on points in the four-way Pop Go The Legals contest against strong challenges from Constructive Feedback (Burges Salmon), Jacanda (Foot Anstey and DAC Beachcroft) and TiLT (TLT).
Constructive Feedback drew the short straw of going first as the crowd were still arriving but got the evening off to a flying start with a suitably rowdy version of Brown Sugar.
The evening, which was staged by Osborne Clarke, raised more than £2,000 for Jacks Star Tribute Fund.
Photos from Pop Go The Legals will appear in next week’s Bristol Business News e-bulletin.
