Award-winning children’s illustrator and artist Hannah Cumming has been chosen by Bristol-headquartered law firm TLT to paint its Gromit sculpture – part of the city’s Gromit Unleashed Art Trail.
Hannah, who has been highly commended in the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize for two consecutive years, uses watercolours, ink, coloured pencils and the computer to create visually-inventive, colourful and bold illustrations capturing a child’s-eye view of the world.
Her first book The Cloud was long listed for the Nasen Inclusive Children’s Book Award and follow-up The Lost Stars was shortlisted for the Portsmouth Book Award 2012. Hannah's third book The Red Boat won gold at the Wishing Shelf Independent Book Awards 2013 in the picture book category.
TLT senior partner Robert Bourns said: “Hannah is an acclaimed local artist whose imaginative illustrations are fresh and engaging, and this is very much in line with TLT’s innovative culture.
“We are delighted that Hannah will be decorating TLT’s Gromit and we look forward to unveiling her design in a couple of months’ time.”
Gromit Unleashed is a ground-breaking 10-week public art exhibition in Bristol to support Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
TLT’s 5ft Gromit is one of 80 sculptures that make up the art trail and will have pride of place in Castle Park opposite the Galleries Shopping Centre.
Spearheaded by long-standing TLT client Aardman, the unique art trail will feature Gromits decorated by an eclectic mix of artists, designers and celebrities including illustrator Sir Quentin Blake, comedian Harry Hill, pop artist Sir Peter Blake and iconic fashion designers Paul Smith and Celia Birtwell.
When the art trail is finished the Gromits will be auctioned to raise funds for The Grand Appeal with all money raised going towards supporting the expansion of children’s hospital.
