Bristol animation studio A Productions has been selected to create a new spin-off of the hit kids’ TV show Pip and Posy.
Pip and Posy Let’s Learn, based on the books written by Camilla Reid and illustrated by Axel Scheffler – best known for The Gruffalo – will teach concepts from the early years’ curriculum, such as shape sorting and simple maths, in exciting and inventive ways.
Young viewers will be able to play along with the title characters and their friends as they use their amazing sense of fun, imagination and rhyme to explore a range of subjects.
Produced by London-based Magic Light Pictures, the Bafta-winning licensing business behind family entertainment and brands including Stick Man, Zog and The Highway Rat, Pip and Posy Let’s Learn is the latest major win for A Productions.
Founded in 1985 and now based across two studios in Bristol, A Productions makes iconic children’s content for TV and film for audiences in the UK and around the world.
It has worked on many award-winning shows, including the animation for JoJo & Gran Gran, which is produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions for CBeebies, with series three currently in production.
The studio also animated Sesame Workshop’s first-ever animated special The Monster at the End of This Story, a subsequent animated special, Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy, and works on segment animations for the iconic Sesame Street series.
A Productions joint managing director Katherine McQueen said: “We are hugely excited to have begun animation on Pip and Posy Let’s Learn with Magic Light Pictures.
“We are very much looking forward to helping to bring these much-loved characters to life for this new off-shoot series, which will see Pip and Posy bring their sense of fun and playfulness to learning in their own unique way.”
The A Productions team is also currently producing Digital Girl, a new adventure-comedy superhero series, with its parent company Cyber Group Studios as worldwide distributor.
The series has been commissioned by the BBC and pre-sold to Super RTL (Germany) and Discovery Kids (Latin America).
Also in production is The Makery series two for Terrific Television, the ‘make-and-do’ series commissioned in the UK for Sky Kids and in the US for Peacock.
Cyber Group Studios acquired its majority stake in A Productions 18 months ago for an undisclosed sum. The deal involves the two firms collaborating on new content for a global audience.
Pip and Posy Let’s Learn, which is aimed at children aged three-plus, will be available on Sky Kids in October.
