Senior figures from the worlds of business, sport and charity will share their perspectives on leading with integrity and purpose at an event hosted by the University of Bath’s School of Management.

Taking place in The Forum in central Bath on Wednesday 3 July, Leadership Dialogues @Bath is organised by world-renowned leadership experts Dr Margaret Heffernan and Prof Stephen Wyatt to profile the potential for purposeful leadership to create positive impact in communities and businesses.

Both will speak at the event as part of the 11-strong international panel. Among the speakers will be Bath Rugby head coach Johann Van Graan, AstraZeneca UK president Tom Keith-Roach, and Julia Strachan, ambassador and former head of partnerships for Justice and Care charity.

Dr Heffernan, Professor of Practice at the School of Management, has run five different businesses in the UK and the US, and now writes, speaks, and advises on leadership, management, innovation and creativity.

She also advised the Casey Review into the culture and standards of the Metropolitan Police.

She said: “It’s obvious to see that leadership is in crisis. The motives, competence and impact of leaders are questioned everywhere.

“The world has changed but, in many cases, leaders have not. What kind of leaders do we need now?

“How are they different from their predecessors? Is trust unattainable or just achieved now through different means?

“This event explores the pressing issues that concern leaders and their followers.”

Stephen Wyatt, who is Professor of Leadership and Strategy at the school, is a consultant, coach and thought leader and will speak on the theme of his new book The Antidote to the Crisis of Leadership.

He said: “Leadership that can inspire and transform comes about through meaningful connections, inclusivity, and empowering others to thrive.

“The stories our speakers will share will give valuable insight into the choices they made, how this increased resilience, energised people around them, and ultimately increased their impact.”

The event will feature 20-minute talks, interview and panel discussions, interspersed with time for networking, small group discussions and direct interaction with speakers.
