A Bristol-based international infrastructure specialist with a mission to shape the future of healthcare has become the latest firm in the city to be certified as a B Corp.

Archus joins around 30 Bristol businesses in gaining the coveted accreditation, which recognises their commitment to creating positive social and environmental impacts for their communities.

Archus, which was launched in 2017, provides a wide range of strategic and infrastructure consultancy and analytics services to health and social care organisations.

It employs nearly 100 health planners, clinicians, project managers, strategic advisors and technical specialists across its eight offices who help plan, develop and deliver better healthcare environments which demonstrate the importance of healthcare in supporting and caring for communities.

The firm’s journey to B-Corp certification involved a detailed assessment of its operations, including its impact on workers, customers, community, and the environment and a legally embedded commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles.

While the certification process requires a benchmark score of over 80 to pass, Archus achieved 98.5.

Archus managing director Shane Dineen, pictured, said: “We are incredibly proud to have achieved B-Corp certification with an excellent B-Impact score which is reflective of the importance we place on maintaining ethical business practices.

“At Archus we have always believed that creating sustainable healthcare infrastructure is about far more than just physical structures.

“This milestone reinforces our unwavering commitment to social and environmental stewardship, not only through the work we undertake within the healthcare sector but for the communities we operate in.”

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, which runs B Corps in the UK, added: “Being able to welcome Archus to the B Corp community is hugely exciting.

“Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit”.

Bristol is second only to London for take-up of the B Corp status, reflecting the city’s forward-looking approach to business for positive impact.

Last month Bristol menstrual products firm Grace & Green has become the most sustainable period care brand in the UK and Europe after being certified as a B Corp while in August South West accountancy firm Albert Goodman, which recently doubled the size of its Bristol office, became just the second accountancy practice in the region to achieve B Corp accreditation.

Other Bristol B Corps include Business West, the region’s largest business group which also runs Bristol Chamber of Commerce, specialist energy investment company Thrive Renewables, workplace technology provider Amba, tea brand Pukka Herbs and financial planning firm Paradigm Norton.

Archus’s B Corp success comes three months after it secured £9m from BGF, the growth capital investor, to spur further overseas expansion, recruit more senior staff and boost innovation.
