Sherlock actor Martin Freeman is calling on Bristol businesses to hunt out hilarious hats and wear them on November 4 to raise funds for St Mungo’s, the national charity which operates a centre in Jamaica St providing healthcare advice and support for homeless people.
Martin is joined by TV comedian Ed Byrne in supporting St Mungo’s Woolly Hat Day. They are urging firms to make Woolly Hat Day a major fundraiser at work by holding a staff hat party, with employees donning bobble hats, berets or whatever headwear they fancy, donating £3 for the privilege.
St Mungo’s provides emergency shelter for homeless men and women, supporting them in their recovery and helping prevent rough sleeping and homelessness.
St Mungo's began managing the Compass Centre in Jamaica Street in 2009. The centre hosts services including healthcare and mental health support, employment and IT training opportunities and a café for homeless people
Martin Freeman said: “Homelessness should be completely unacceptable in the UK. Show your support for homeless people and the work of St Mungo's by putting your hat on and passing it around to raise some cash for Woolly Hat Day.”
