A high-flyer from the aerospace sector has been appointed by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, to head up the support it provides to industry across the South West.

As the organisation’s new region director, Paul Knight will be responsible for the services delivered to member companies but he will also represent the needs of manufacturing to regional policymakers, with the aim of helping to shape a business environment that creates a more balanced economy.

There are an estimated 11,500 manufacturers in the South West employing around 265,000 people and contributing more than £12bn to the regional economy.

“Manufacturing in the South West has a very important role to play in delivering economic prosperity and jobs,” said Paul. “This region is home to an incredibly diverse mix of innovative businesses employing hundreds of thousands of people – from small family-run firms through to world-leading multi-national corporations – and as such it is vital that the voice of industry is heard as we focus on sustaining the economic recovery.”

Mr Knight joins EEF from the aerospace and defence sector, where he worked in a variety of senior management roles and was responsible for negotiating and delivering multi-million dollar contracts with global companies. His most recent job was as head of business development at Cambridge-based Marshall Aerospace. He replaces Terry Slater, who has retired from EEF after many years’ service.

“This is a very exciting time to be joining EEF,” Paul said. “I am looking forward to playing my part in ensuring that the services we deliver meet the needs of our members and that we work closely with local policy-makers to address any barriers to growth.”

EEF exists for the benefit of its members, providing support in HR and employment law, health safety and environment, information and research and business improvement.
