Football fans in Clevedon could soon be among the first in the county to watch matches under solar-powered floodlights.
Bristol-based consultancy Aspire Planning has submitted a planning application to mount 204 photovoltaic panels on the sloping roof of the main 300-seater grandstand at Clevedon Town’s Hand Stadium.
The panels, which each measure just 1661mm x 991mm, would generate up to 47,500 KWh of electricity a year – enough to power 15 homes.
James Davis, managing director of Aspire Planning – which advises businesses and residents seeking planning permission for commercial, domestic and renewable developments – said: “We believe this is an ideal location for small-scale solar development.
“Because the panels are roof-mounted the scheme would have a low visual impact and would enable the stadium to generate its own power and reduce CO2 emissions.”
He added: “The generous subsidies available to organisations investing in wind and solar energy have sparked huge demand for our specialist planning services and we are currently handling dozens of such applications nationally.”
