Global renewable energy group Sonnedix has appointed South West and South of England-focused law firm Foot Anstey to its UK legal panel as it looks to scale up its presence in the market.
The Chile-headquartered group develops, builds and operates renewable energy projects with the aim to provide affordable, clean electricity to customers.
With nearly 500 projects either in operation, under construction or in development worldwide, Sonnedix’s footprint spans North and South America, Europe and the Far East.
Having built its first UK solar PV site in 2014 and following its recent acquisition of 300MW from Lightsource BP, Europe’s largest solar developer, Sonnedix is growing strongly in the UK market and will use its operations here as a hub to support its global and European presence.
As part of the panel, Foot Anstey’s energy & infrastructure team will support Sonnedix on a range of energy projects through its specialist services, which include corporate, real estate, construction, regulatory and environmental issues.
The Foot Anstey team supporting Sonnedix includes its Bristol-based head of energy & infrastructure Ian Stubbs, pictured, and senior associate Kieran van Bussel, along with a multi-disciplinary team of energy specialists from across the firm.
Sonnedix said: “We were really impressed with how the team at Foot Anstey tailored its response to the tender, which demonstrated the firm’s clear knowledge of the industry and Sonnedix’s place in it.
“The team has a proven track record in supporting renewable energy companies on various matters and we are excited to work with Foot Anstey to scale up our presence in the UK.”
Ian Stubbs added: “Sonnedix has ambitious plans to grow in the UK and we are excited to be part of that journey.
“We have extensive experience in enabling renewable energy projects, in the UK and further afield and particularly with non-UK businesses looking to enter or grow their presence here.
“In the last year, we have seen a dramatic increase in interest and investment in the UK’s renewable energy space, something that we are well-equipped to advise on.”
Foot Anstey, which also has offices in Exeter, London, Plymouth, Southampton, Taunton and Truro, advises clients in sectors spanning development, energy and infrastructure to Islamic finance and retail and consumer.
