Experienced property and construction lawyer Ian Stubbs has been appointed as a partner in South West law firm Foot Anstey’s Bristol office.
Ian, pictured, brings more than 30 years’ experience in the sector to the firm’s construction team, having begun his career as a quantity surveyor and a contracts manager, before re-qualifying as a lawyer and specialising in transactional legal aspects of construction and engineering projects.
He joins from the London HQ of construction sector specialists Pinsent Masons, where he was a partner heading a team working on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects.
Ian’s extensive experience includes working on many major national and international projects across industry sectors including energy, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and technology, waste management, leisure, education and real estate.
He specialises in providing strategic transactional advice on contracting structures, finance and procurement methodology, contract drafting and negotiations and project delivery. He also has a strong, industry-based operational understanding of contracting and delivery issues, particularly in relation to the funding, procurement, implementation and commissioning of complex construction and engineering projects.
Head of Foot Anstey’s property, infrastructure and construction team, Richard Walford, said: “Ian is a fantastic addition to Foot Anstey’s team, having such a wealth of experience both gained from working within and for different businesses across our core sectors.
“He will be a vital part of our leadership and growth plans. We look forward to welcoming Ian to the team and introducing him to our valued clients.”
Ian is also an externally recognised expert on his subject area, having spoken at conferences held by the European Construction Institute and by the Engineering & Construction Risk Institute on legal issues affecting those involved on major construction projects, as well as at events organised by other construction industry professional bodies, such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
He is the latest in a series of strategic hires for Foot Anstey as the firm, which also has offices in Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth, Southampton, Truro and London, continues to develop and deepen its sector strength.
The firm recently reported 20% growth in its sector teams, with overall growth of 12% and turnover increasing to £36m. Over the past five years its turnover has grown by 60%, which puts it among the fastest growing firms in the industry.
