Regional law firm Foot Anstey is hosting an event alongside the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) next week to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The emergence of new technologies, changes in business strategy and increased consumer focus have driven the need for updated regulation.
The GDPR, which will take effect on May 25 next year, introduces a number of new concepts and significantly raises the bar for every business which processes personal data.
As well as the threat of increased fines, the risk of reputational impact of data breaches should be on the agenda of all business leaders, from marketing and communications teams to the boardroom itself.
Speaking at the event will be Foot Anstey senior associate Alexandra Leonidou, who joined the firm from an in-house role at Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Alexandra, pictured, is a specialist in data protection, advising on cutting-edge marketing and advertising activities, including targeted advertising practices, social media, consumer-facing promotions and competitions and the development and on-going management of websites and online clubs and loyalty programmes.
Also speaking will be Foot Anstey head of media Tony Jaffa, who is highly regarded in his field as a pre-eminent adviser. He has been working with major UK newspapers and magazines for more than 25 years.
CIM South West regional board chair Brian Doidge said: “In today’s customer-led world, consumer data is a critical issue if you want to reach the right audience, in the right way, at the right time.
“CIM has just launched its ‘Data Right’ campaign to urge businesses and organisations to take action on the issue of responsible management of customer data and to take a pledge that they are taking data management seriously. The new GDPR legislation means getting data management right will become a legal imperative.”
The event is being held next Thursday, May 4, at Foot Anstey’s Bristol office
